Our Pride

Flying over or driving through the Turkana District, or the North Eastern Province of Kenya, one might come across one of the nearly 100 Kijito windpumps supplying a community, a school, a mission or a farm with water in the arid Northern Kenya areas.

The Kijito windpumps, today, provide water to tens of thousands of rural African people.

Our Future

In a global world, where even in the remotest places of Africa, where young people know the names of the world sport stars; desperation and anger propagate fast, but so can hope too.

Access to modern services is a key to joining the world stage.
It is today's human right to access the world globalisation. It is today's human responsibility to behave as a citizen of the world.
Access to electricity is a powerful means to socio-economic development. Our recent first stand alone wind electrification project at Esilanke Primary School convinced us that we are on the right track.

We hope to be as successful in wind power generation as we have been with windpumping.

Core Strategy

During its development, KWPL has been aware that progress is a complicated task that can not be achieved on a lonely path. We have been pleased to meet R&D institutions, engineers, researchers, students and commercial partners from Kenya, Tanzania, Somaliland, South-Africa, Britain, Canada, Denmark, and France that have contributed to the maturing of the Kijito technology and the development of the company.

It is strategic for the growth of the Company to be able to evolve along with its global context. That is the reason why KWPL keeps its eyes open worldwide and works with overseas partners.

Locally KWPL acts for developing wind energy in Kenya. As a main target, the Company is committed to the emergence of closer relationships between industrial and research sectors and the association of the different Kenyan wind industry stakeholders for promoting wind energy in Kenya.

Methodology

Rather than customers, KWPL considers the people investing in Kijito wind systems as partners.

It is the core of Kijito's ''way of business'' to keep committed to its customers. From the beginning of a project to its follow-up, up to 25 years after system installation, KWPL provides:

visits to future customer's project site, appropriate consulting and engineering in the upstream project stages, system delivery and installation, a one year guarantee after installation customers'/end-users' technical training in order to ensure local system operation and maintenance, maintenance and post-installation servicing on customer's request, where people's situation have changed, replacement & collection of old machines under appropriate credit scheme

All along Kijito's history, customers' and end-users' feed backs have been an essential way to improve our machines. This attention to meet the needs and expectations of our customers and end-users has enabled us to develop high performance and reliable windpumps. We intend to follow the same methodology with the development of our wind power generation activity.
At KWPL most employees have been with the Company for more than 20 years, the remainder over 10, showing a commitment on both sides of the Kijito team.

Philosophy

The values we promote in our projects, we apply to ourselves internally. Therefore social responsibility constitutes the core of KWPL's management philosophy.

KWPL's social, employment and management policy is based on:
recruiting motivated people, and providing on the job training where necessary providing a healthy and safe working environment for all employees rewarding effort, quality and performance financing employee's training for the development of their capacities and skills proposing career evolution perspectives having a working relationship with employees where their comments and suggestions for Kijito development and improvements are taken very seriously on board offering employment to people usually left outside the work arena.

Together with KWPL's sister farming Company over 10% of the employees have some form of physical disability, whether it be blindness, the effects of polio, or other physically constraints. However, the Company has always maintained that they are still able to carry out a normal days work, whether it be on the telephone, in the paint shop, the Accounts department, or in the farm fields.

The integration of employees with physical disability has been a great success which has never counteracted KWPL's development.
This progressive policy is not only the demonstration of KWPL's ethics, it also the Company's strategy to keep our best employees with us.

For us, high qualified, committed and well remunerated employees are a key to business success and sustainability.
